My 1st NYFW Experience!

I've had quite a full birthday weekend! Possibly the best I've ever had too. Besides the amaze-balls fact that my new sparkly pink debit card finally came in the mail, my birthday treat was to an event during New York Couture Fashion Week. With all the buzz during the actual NYFW, I decided to save this post until now to spice up your October a bit.

The show featured the work of 4 designers. Two were Women's clothing lines, 1 Male, and a unisex line. Personally I thought the women's lines were fabulous. Because it was Couture, they were all dresses and a few really stuck out to me! I took plenty pictures and videos so I won't go too in detail now. It was such a cool experience I'm sure I'll never forget it.

I created a bit of a video diary showing me, my mom, and her best friend before and after the show too. It will be on the ROXYmodae Youtube Channel tonight, as a Friday treat! Get to watch the show as if you were sitting next to the birthday girl myself, in 2nd row by the way! Enjoy and TGIF guys ;*

Have I Found the Perfect Shirt? Ya Denim Skippy!

I am seriously cherishing my new denim shirt! It's the one I've been waiting for all year. You may remember it in a little sneak peek picture in my birthday outfit.

A bit about it- Loosely fitted, super versatile, and boyish in a way that'll look perfect over the girliest outfit I can put together. But that's just me. There's always a way to work with it no matter what style you have and I absolutely love it for that. The first time I wear it is sure to be a hit so look out for an outfit post!

2 Blowdryer Tricks You Didn't Know (having nothing to do with hair!)

We all know the main purpose of your blow dryer, to get the wet tangles (that's my hair at least) out of your hair after a rejuvinating wash. However, I bet you didn't know your blowdryer could do these 2 little tricks. Shhh! It's a ROXY secret I've finally decided to share with you-

1. Get your eyelashes' curl to last longer- Take your eyelash curler, and with your blowdryer set to High, heat the rubber for no more than 7 seconds. Curl as usual and it'll last MUCH longer. Think, you wouldn't try to crimp your hair with a cold, unplugged iron would you? Heat and hair are a long-lasting duo! Makes sense doesn't it? Don't know how to use one? No worries, more on that is up ahead for sure.

2. Break in those new shoes- This one takes about 15 minutes if you can squeeze into some free time, but it's worth the days of fashionable pain you'll prevent! Simply slip on some thick socks, put on your shoes, and blowdry the front and/or sides of the shoe's tip and heel. (It works better on flats.) While the heat is still blowing, wiggle your toes around and budge your feet a bit (still wearing the socks). After about 10-20 minutes, take the socks off and try out those bad boys! More tips on breaking in shoes are in a post-in-progress.

Drop Your Curling Iron for a Curling Wand- NOW!

It's been a while but I thought I'd just pop in to review my curling wand extravaganza! If you are convinced that your curling iron is you only hope of getting good curls, think again! To start,

  • a wand is much healthier for your hair, no matter what type or texture
  • They're made with infused Keratin, or other hair treatments depending on the quality of the one you purchase; no need for the products
  • If you have extremely thick hair like mine, you actually don't have to straighten your hair before getting to curl it!
  • Instead of clamping down and sizzling hair like an iron, a wand is just wrap and go, with adjustable heat to help you choose your curl size. No need for a million different sized irons if you can simply turn a temperature dial! Go from tight curls to loose glamourous waves in seconds
Now, you know me. If it didn't work well, I am definitely one to return the waste of mall money! I've conducted my own study experimenting with my own hair to see if it's worth the $30..........

1. I left 1/2 of my hair blowdried (un-straightened). The other half, I did my normal blowdry-flat iron routine.

2. With my curling iron I curled the pin-straight side with a stopwatch set. With my wand I curled the other side, expecting more trouble.

When did I fall in love with that wand? When the results said that the curl ironed, expected-to-be-a-breeze side took 17 mins. longer than the side that wasn't even straight! Not to mention but my wand didn't give my hair that "i know now, beauty is pain" burnt smell. No sizzling or steam, yet the curls looks nourished and shinier from my Keratin-infused wand. They don't call it a "wand" for nothing! Trust me, just drop the curling iron because Snoop was wrong, it is NOT hot anymore!

I've tried a few lines and companies but by far, Remington is the leader in magic wands. Whoops! I meant, curling wands ;) Be aware of "Bed Head", "Conair" or knockoff curling wands. I've found they're not nearly as good as Remington!

I'll post the exact name of mine sometime this week, but for now, here's what it looks like. Try your own experiment and post it on your blog, then email me if you want me to feature it on ROXYmodae. Can't wait to hear from ya!

My Case-obsessed "Friend"

This past June, a uhh "friend of mine" finally got an iPhone! *does happydance and adds "#TeamiPhone to every profile they have* She has a serious obsession with the way her new phone is accessorized everyday. She has 9 cases so far, which isn't so bad, besides the fact that she's awaiting 7 more in the mail! She even asked me to ask my followers for pictures of their favorite cases. (Email is on the contact page) Check out her blog, ROXYmo- uh oh. I ratted myself out there didn't I? Ahh okay I admit it, I admit it! I am obsessed with iPhone cases!

I must say, it's much more addictive than you think. Never will it be something you're disappointed in! Heck, even my 60 year old grandma has one and loves hers. My mom?;We all crowd around her phone and talk to Siri more than we talk to our neighbors! Welp, anyway, I've returned from the dark, unblogged days of this summer to briefly report my new obsession to my unfortunately low amount of followers.

Heads up, a new channel video will be up on a certain Friday in early October with my collection progress. A couple of my favorite iPhone/Android apps for a fashionista? Tips for ordering Amazon/Ebay? The best designer's case collections? How to stud a boring case? They're all to come and I just can't wait to share them with you!

I'm Back!

Dear fashionable followers,
Boy has it been a while! I know it late but I had to come back to ROXYmodae. I missed the blog way too much to go any longer without my fingers eagerly tapping style into these keys and sprinkling fashion glitter onto your dashboards. For some reason, kept saying "I haven't blogged in way too long. Might as well not until something big is happening. I probably lost all follower loyalty anyway. Hmm..." But then I realized, there's always something big in fashion! New trends, new things I like, even a simple shopping spree for the day is worth a post! Oh how I wish I could just rewind time and makeup for all the missed blog-worthy things.

Well, since I last blogged I've taken wonderful trips and practically got a whole new wardrobe! Ontario, Niagara Falls, and (my favorite) Montreal were all in the mix too. I've learned new makeup tricks, accepted a couple collabo opportunities and got a Twitter. Speaking of social networks, I reached my goal of 250 pics on Instagram. I discovered my love of crew socks, and finally got my iPhone! I can't wait to catch up and share my world, with the other world. Lots of posts (maybe even a view new YouTube videos) are to come.

Love you guys and thanks for keeping loyal following,
                                                                                                                                                                             Brittney

Feminine Friday: Petticoat Skirt

If there's anything I love this season, it's feminine-looking things. Plumes on pens, delicate feathers, sparkly brooches, vanities, quilted leather bed headboards, petticoats, tutus, the whole bit. After this Feminine Friday trendy trick you'll be able to add adorable volume to any skirt in no time, and with no tools!

Step 1: Start with any loose skirt and a tutu with tulle that's not too long and matches the loose skirt. Mine is a loose fit floral skirt with a pink sparkly tutu.

Step 2: With spanx or whatever underneath, put on the tutu. To make it puffier, you can roll the waist over 1 or 2 times if you want.

Step 3: Put on the loose skirt from overhead so that the waist band sets around your bellybutton line. Some of the tutu's color shows underneath and you now made a whole new skirt without sewing at all!

How did yours turn out? I think this one came out just as I'd hoped. Email me your results please! More than 10 emails means a roundup post is to come! An outfit post for this one is also in store. See you guys tomorrow and have a great Friday.

Fringe Crop DIY

At last! I present to you, a typical logo/organization Tshirt that's acceptable in public! It's a cute little DIY specially for one searching for purpose of their shamelessly oversized free Tshirt from an event or so. Don't think it can be done? You gotta DIY it to believe it! Check out the video below or go to the ROXYmodae YouTube channel. Also feel free to combine this DIY with others. Be extra creative! Add studs or rhinestones to the shoulders of the shirt. Cut the sleeves zigzagged. Tie knots and add beads on the fringes. Do whatever- it's YOUR shirt, do what you want with it. The best part, it won't take you more than 10 minutes!

Back Again and Better Than Ever

Hello dearies! This new season has brought on so many trends and events that it's all been a bit hectic trying to blog it all. My head is constantly spinning with ideas and my draft folder is well near an incomplete-caused suicidal explosion. To keep it all manageable, I may be blogging a little less than daily for a couple of weeks. I apologize for not posting in so long and promise, the posts that do go up will be worth the wait. New segments, pictures, and photography are to come. Just to show how hard I've worked on drafting enough posts to be efficient, I will be scheduling some posts for the days that I've missed to fill the gap. However, the only way you'll notice (since it won't be at the top as usual) is to subscribe to "style in your inbox" found in the top-left sidebar. Highly suggested and takes literally .3 seconds.

Regular posting will be back tomorrow and have a stylish day,

1st Spring 2012 Outfit Post!

In this outfit, I focused on the spring florals, a small splash of color, and a fresh feel with white denim. I kept my hair simple and bohemian. The goal was to create the PERFECT mix of everything trending and casual/cute. Where to find casual pieces? The basic stores like Old Navy, Forever 21, and H&M of course!

A ruffled, polka dotted, and floral crop top. Sounds crazy huh? I think it works pretty well for an expected commotion wouldn't you say?
There it is! That headwrap is the key to this hairdo. Two simple twists, (bang pinned down for the day) and the flower headwrap to correspond to the shirt's pattern and the beaded bracelets.

Sporty denim canvas sneaks and slight frayed white denim keep it cool and casual.

Just a little roundup pic of today's props!

SHOP THIS LOOK:

3. Sky Blue UnderTank- Old Navy
4. White Denim Skirt- Target

Taking Advantage of Features

See the circled things? Use em'- EXPLORE!
SIDEBARS
I've noticed, most of you don't take the time to actually evaluate all the great features offered in the sidebar. Let's be real here- did any of you even know that there was a way to share ROXYmodae to Facebook or Twitter with the click of a mouse?    How about the fact that you can go directly to my BlogLovin or Independent Fashion Bloggers Page just by tapping the picture widgets? Don't you just get a thrill out of seeing your comment posted live on the left side? Also, get new posts emailed to you (enter your email address in the left sidebar)! Search in a little box by typing in phrases like "colorful pants" or "how to wear fur" or even small keywords like "metallic clothes jackets"

PAGES
These are not boring informational pages like most other sites. I spend very much time (almost as much as I do writing posts) updating them. The contact information, pictures I've taken, etc is all up to date. My personal favorite is the Obsession page, which is where I post things I've been really into lately.

FOLLOWING
Frankly, follow the blog! However, following anonymously makes no sense, now does it? Why wouldn't you want your picture to be seen on the blog? I know when I go to another blog, an interesting profile pic is just what gets me to view their profile, which leads to their blog. A boring default won't bring anymore visitors to your blog. Get more traffic, follow publicly!

COMMENTS
Under every post or page on the site, just for you, I've added a feature where you can post using many different profiles including Facebook, Google, AOL, anonymous, or even comment using just your name. There's also the optional feature to add a link to your own blog to be published along with your Name/URL comment.

Now that you've gotten a not-so-secret sneak peek at all the features you've ingored lately, you can add even more reasons to your list as to "why I love ROXYmodae so much". Just kidding, just enjoy the new little tools and have a stylish day okay?

Don't be afraid to click that drop-down button once in a while!

This Week on ROXYmodae

Hello and happy Monday to all you stylish readers out there today! I sincerely apologize for my lack of posting last week. I was not inspired enough to post what I felt was truly fantastic enough for you. : D So now that I'm back, let's chat about this weeks agenda shall we?

Monday starts off a little different this week as it did last week too, no strange item. I figured I'd give you some time to try to figure out who the heck would want a "banana phone". Tomorrow through Thursday I'll give you guys the run-down about essentials you'll need for Spring. Fashion Friday will be a great one- some peeks at Fashion Weeks around the world and some new DIYs to try over the weekend.

Stay-tuned though because if this post got you excited, wait til you see the amazing photography, writing, projects, and details to come! Besides, you never know with me I guess, I may change 2 or 3 (hint hint, wink, wink) of the plans for the better! Have a great morning and rest of your day.  -Britt
